Our SAJAMA backpack is part of our Impact-Line. Our approach is to source from small family workshops with as few intermediaries as possible. Instead of saying that a small percentage of our revenue goes to charities, we aim to ensure that 100% of our production costs directly benefit the people doing the work. No big manufacturers, wholesalers, or distributors.
We source directly from the people doing the work. We consciously choose to have as many processes as possible done manually, even if they could be done by machine, such as the traditional tanning and processing of the leather for our SAJAMA backpacks from Bolivia. We choose to increase the manual labor and production time of our products, which in turn creates more work and increases people's ability to provide for their families.
In this case, the small business was able to employ 2 local artisans for the entire production period and support their families.
Traditional Leather Craftsmanship
The leather used offers a variety of special characteristics. It is tanned and processed using traditional methods, giving it exceptional durability and unique character. Each piece of leather develops a beautiful patina over time, making the material even more special. The natural structure of the leather makes each backpack one-of-a-kind with an individual grain. Through gentle, traditional processing, the natural properties of the leather are preserved: it is robust yet supple and water-resistant.
The plant-based tanning agents used are environmentally friendly and free from harmful chemicals. Unlike industrially manufactured leather, this traditionally tanned leather ages better and gains character over time.
Our backpacks carry the story of their production within them. The production of this limited edition took eight months, as each step was performed entirely by hand to maximize the labor for people.

How do I properly care for the garments?
Proper care of your garments is important to maintain their quality and longevity. We recommend washing the pieces at a maximum of 40 degrees to ensure gentle cleaning. Additionally, we do not recommend tumble drying garments as this may result in shrinkage or damage.
